The following awards and Prizes are sponsored by the ANZSCDB to assist members who are Early Career researchers/Students, and offer financial assistance to attend the national meeting.

ComBio Awards for best Poster and Oral Presentations
The traditional Keith Dixon Prize in Developmental Biology, and the two awards named in memory of the contributions made to the Society by Toshi Yamada and David Walsh, are given at the annual ComBio meeting for the best oral or poster presentations by junior Society members in the fields of cell and developmental biology. The Protland Press Prize is also awarded at ComBio.

Details of eligibility and judging criteria, are set out below.

The Toshiya Yamada Early Career Award - value $500

The Keith Dixon Prize in Developmental Biology - value $350
(past recipients)
The David Walsh Student Prize - value $350
(past recipients)

Eligibility

ALL student members who have submitted abstracts as presenting author at the Annual Meeting, are eligible for these awards. Students (and junior post-docs - see note below) are encouraged to indicate on their abstract submission form that they would be prepared to give an ORAL presentation, although this is not obligatory for award eligibility.

The Career Award is also open to junior postdocs (ie. those within their first three years of their post-doc).

Judging

Recipients are selected during the course of the meeting by a judging panel of senior Society members who attend each presentation to gauge the contribution from each presenter and their understanding of, and ability to answer question about, their topic.

The awards are announced and presented at the closing ceremony of the ComBio meeting.

ComBio Travel Assistance
A minimum of six awards is offered annually to students to assist with the costs of attending the national ComBio meeting. Travel assistance is awarded on a pro-rata basis determined by the distance required to travel to the meeting.

Applications from student members should take the form of an explanation of up to half a page as to why financial assistance is required. Applications should be sent the President, ANZSCDB by the closing date (distributed to student members by email well in advance).

Student Exchange (SEX) Scheme
Each year the Society provides funds (four awards of up to $500) to enable students to visit another lab in Australia to learn a new technique or complete experiments that might not be possible in their current institution.

Applications from interested students should be sent to the President, ANZSCDB, outlining their proposed research activities (Max. 1 page) for the duration of their visit as well as the anticipated cost of travel and accommodation.
