ComBio Awards for best Poster and Oral Presentations

ComBio Student Travel Awards

  • Student bursaries are offered annually to Student members.
  • Applications and conditions for student bursaries are distributed by email broadcast to members when registration opens and is located on the website.
  • Applications should be sent to the Secretary, by the date specified in the application form.

All Postdoc and Student members who submit abstracts as presenting author at COMBIO are eligible for these awards. All presenting authors are encouraged to indicate on their abstract submission form that they would be prepared to give an ORAL presentation, although this is not obligatory for award eligibility.

*The Toshiya Yamada Early Career Award is open to Junior Postdocs (i.e. those within the first three years of their postdoc).

Recipients are selected during the course of the meeting by a panel of judges consisting of senior Society members who attend each presentation and evaluate the quality of the presentation, the contribution from each presenter and their understanding of, and ability to answer questions about their topic.

The awards are announced and presented at the closing ceremony of the COMBIO meeting.

Transition to independence is one of the most challenging and critical stages in the career of a research scientist. This award is established to encourage and support emerging investigators who are at the stage of building independent careers in our disciplines in Australia and New Zealand. The award will be an imprimatur of scientific accomplishment. The principal criteria will be the quality of the candidate's research and evidence of ability to sustain an independent career. This award is generously sponsored by Zeiss.

Eligibility: Candidates must be financial members of the ANZSCDB for at least one year.

Nomination process: Candidates must be nominated by two members of the Society (each of at least 1 year's standing). Candidates may self-nominate, but their nomination must be seconded by letters from two Society members.

Application materials: Candidates should submit

  1. a current CV
  2. copies of selected publications (5 max) that best exemplify their
    contribution to their chosen field of research
  3. a brief Executive Summary of career accomplishments and research goals (2 pages max)

The Award: The successful candidate will receive an award consisting of an original artwork from an Australian/New Zealand artist, a symposium talk at COMBIO (the Prize includes: registration, travel, one night’s accommodation and the Society’s dinner, and invited talk(s) at two national centres determined in discussion with the Society President (travel and accommodation included).

Close of Application: November 20, 2011.
The successful applicant will be announced early in 2012.
