Neurodegenerative disease represent a major disease burden within the Australian Community. Moreover, with an increasingly older population this load will become more severe both at the economic and social level. Presently there are no therapies which are effective in ameliorating these conditions, and, although agents like small interfering RNAs and other biologicals have shown great promise, failure to deliver these novel drugs to the affected brain region has severely limited their clinical development in the context of neurodegeneration. The Nano-Neuro Project aims to develop nanoparticle technology as an effective drug delivery system for the administration of bioactive molecules into the diseased central nervous system. The successful Applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the QBI under the leadership of A/Prof Cooper and Prof Perry Bartlett, and the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology led by Prof Max Lu. The postdoctoral researcher will be situated at QBI where they will participate in the neurobiology and drug delivery projects underpinning this Initiative.

Full-time, Fixed-term appointment at Research Academic level A or B for one year initially with renewal subject to funding and performance.
